How to proofread a paper

How to proofread a paper should be known to every writer who is writing an essay, paper or article. In addition to the usual checks for spelling, mechanics, grammar and usage, you will want to check documentation forms carefully, period for period and comma for comma. Check for italics and quotation marks. Read carefully for typing errors.
The most important proofreading you do for a research paper, however, is quite different from that for any other paper. Be sure to check the use of quotation marks for any quoted material you have included. Remember, if you use another author's words as they were your own-even accidentally-you can suffer severe penalties. Plagiarism is a serious error, almost a crime. You should check your original sources against the ideas included in your paper just to be certain you have not simply forgotten a set of quotation marks or neglected to copy the quotation marks from your note cards onto your papers.
Check the sentence structure. Have you used effective sentences? Have you varied their structure? Are they easy to read? Finally, check one more time that you have not committed any other deadly sins of paraphrase writing. Be certain that you have not
o Misrepresented or changed the emphasis of am idea from the original source.
o Relied too heavily on the wording of the original passage and allowed plagiarism
to creep into your work.
Re-read everything written in your paper, essay or article to get an awareness
that you have not made a blunder or mistake which can affect your marks and
grades in your exams. Submit a fully proofread assignment or coursework to
your instructor or teacher so that you can get appreciation and rewarding grades
which should be better as compared to your class mates.
