Research Paper on Crime

This is an example research paper on Theories of Crime:
The theories on crime deterrence and punishment have changed throughout history. Beccaria, Lombroso and Durkheim are three theorists who have changed the way deterrence, punishment and crime generally is viewed within society. This research paper will first explore each of the theorists’ ideas separately. It will then examine the similarities and differences between each theory.

Cesare Beccaria, born in 1738, focused on deterrence as the means of crime prevention. Beccaria fits into the Classical School of thinking, and wrote in a time when torture was used regularly to obtain information from people, and where capital punishment could be used for any type of offence. Punishment was based on a retributive means, where the punishment, or harm, given was equal to the harm caused by the perpetrator. In 1764, Beccaria published a book called “On crimes and Punishments”, where he theorised that this approach did not discourage determined criminals from committing crimes. He suggested, however, by taking away their liberty through incarceration that this would deter other would-be criminals not to commit similar crimes, and would also prevent the perpetrator to recommit the crime again. He based this theory on the utilitarian ideals: “the greatest happiness shared by the greatest number” (Beccaria 1764/1994, p. 227). (more…)

Research Paper on Fashion

This is a free example research paper on Fashion:
Roles in society keeps changing for everyone as time passes by. Sometimes the changes are drastic while others are slight, and some roles swap over while other roles develop. As we go through the early stages of the millennium we can compare and see just how the role of men has changed. This can come about from changes in public attitude, sexuality, politics, economy, arts and media, just about everything which surrounds us. Whenever there is a change, we can often see it in things which reflect it. This essay aims to point out the factors regarding how men’s fashion acts as a medium for showing a change in attitude of men’s role in the modern world.

Clothes have always served a main purpose, keeping the body warm and protecting it. It has done so since man was capable of clothing themselves. But over the course of time, specially during the 20th century men’s fashion became something that changed very quickly, to a point where it changes every season. If fashion did reflect changes, then these changes must have occurred just as much, or even more than the changes in fashion sense. (more…)

Research Paper on Ethics

This is a example research paper on Ethics:
In this society, values and ethics are traditionally taught in the home. Most parents with their daily tasks found the time to instill the values that were taught to them by their parents. Nevertheless, it was the father’s responsibility to reinforce the ethical rules and values learned in the home. However, religion plays an important role in teaching values and reinforcing ethics among their parishioners and the children with each sermon that took place on Sunday.

Many young people who attend church and those who strongly believe in the values that are taught by the church in some cases fell prey to those values and some families become victims. This research paper will present such a family situation by revealing the facts of the family, a hypothesis of religious beliefs, and the results to adhering to certain values dictated by religious beliefs. Research Paper on Violence

Violence in Children’s Television
For years the effects of violence and the media has been a controversial topic of debate. While some argue that violence in the media has no repercussions, others argue that its effect is detrimental to society. Within this debate, violence in television has been focused on the most as a prime media source. Perhaps this is because of its influence over society, perhaps this is because of the numerous hours watched daily by the average American. Regardless violence and television has become an ever-present part of this debate. Even more specific however is the effect this violence in television has on children. This goes to the core of the debate, as children targeted by this violence are a major concern in society. Many different researchers have studied the effect of violence in television on children, and most end to agree that it has a negative impact, however controversy still arises as media organizations claim that there is no direct correlation between violence and childrenТs response to television. Overall though, there is a general psychological consensus between these two factors. Violence in television has a negative impact on children through three major revenues; direct effects, desensitization, and the mean world syndrome. (more…)
