Essay on Network Defense and Countermeasures

This is a free example essay on Network Defense and Countermeasures:
My goal is to provide an evaluation of the second class in the New Horizons Security Certified Program. This evaluation is a personal opinion and does not express the opinion of the State of Michigan or the Information Security Cortsoidum or any persons holding a CISSP.

This portion of the New Horizons class was well spread out. The first lesson was Network Defense Fundamentals. Authorization, availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity were defined and discussed as the five major key issues in network defense.

Layered defenses were examined as the best defensive strategy. When we talk about strategies, it is always good to use a well-known analogy so the students can relate. This portion of the course uses the castle analogy to discuss the various layers of security. Basic definitions included training and awareness, perimeter security, intrusion detection, non-repudiation, and attack responses. (more…)

Essay: Milgram – Ethical?

Free example essay on Milgram Study:
The Milgram study, conducted in 1961-1962, shocked and fascinated the scientific community with not only its disturbing findings, but also with its questionable experimental methods. The experiment in itself consisted of placing an individual in a situation in which they would be forced to choose either to obey or disobey commands given by an authoritative person that were contrary to their own morals, sense of socially acceptable behaviour and humanity. This essay will concentrate on whether the study was of great scientific and moral benefits or if the costs and potential harm to the participants were but one factor in making the study an unethical disgrace.

A major factor to the argument of the study’s lack of ethics is the intensive emotional distress and deep conflict, which the participants were subject to, due to the research procedure. The research procedure called for participants (or teachers) to give ‘learners’ electric shocks of increasing voltage when a wrong answer was given to their question, increasing from 15 volts to, eventually, 450 volts, with warnings such as ‘Danger severe shock’ amongst the descriptions. Television Censorship Essay

This is a free essay on Television Censorship:
Today censorship is a very hot topic among people of all ages. Some are for censorship and some are against it. When television networks air televisions shows or movies, they should not have to edit out the bad words.

The television networks should have to edit out the bad material because young people around the world will think that it is ok for them to do and use the kind of material they are seeing on television. Some say that by showing violent shows or no editing out profanity, the young children will start to use these actions in their life. The children will believe that it is ok for them to go around using violence a curse words in their everyday life.

Although I am for against some censorship, I am also for some censorship on television. (more…)

Prohibition Essay

This is an example essay on Prohibition:
Alcohol and controversy are two words that seem to go hand in hand. The very nature of alcohol, to alter one’s abilities and control allows for a distinct division in the opinion of the people. Just as the people are divided, the law follows a similar path. The legal position of alcohol has undergone many changes throughout time. Whether social, legal or political, problems follow close at hand. Canada’s memorable experience with the Temperance and the Prohibition movements allow for a closer examination of the “Devil’s Drink”.

Canada’s expansive land coupled with the variety of population allowed for a challenging and controversial experience during the Prohibition. Political policy clashed with public opinion and caused social uproar. Examination of those who supported the Prohibition, those who vehemently opposed and those who took a middle stand allow one to better understand Canada’s history through controversial times. While the Prohibition was a fascinating time, it is also a perfect example of Canada’s population division and how the issue of alcohol turned the country upside down.

The most zealous of these divisive sides were the temperance organizations and the Protestant Church. The temperance movement grew out of the Protestant fundamentalist and evangelical church, when the early Methodists first established temperance movements and took the vow of temperance. Beginning in the 1830s, Canadian churches such as the Presbyterian and Baptist joined the temperance movement along side Methodists. Their common ideology evolved into self-restraint from alcohol in all forms, and a fight against those who opposed Prohibition. (more…)

Essay on Contraceptives

This is a free example essay on Contraceptives:
Contraceptives have dated all the way back to the biblical era and over the years there has been vast improvements made to the methods of birth control. Today there are more than a dozen on the market. Such as oral, hormonal, surgical, and physical types of contraceptives. In order to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies the key is education on what is available for people and the future of them.

The history of contraception dates back thousands of years, couples have tried to control their fertility using different methods and techniques. The practice of wearing specific animal parts was thought to help women avoid unwanted pregnancy. For example, infertility could be induced by carrying a cat’s liver in a tube on the left foot, tying the testicles of a cat at one’s waist, or even more effective, wearing the uterus of a lioness was thought to cause infertility among women. Certain birds were also believed to play a key role in fertility. for example, Hindus and Egyptians believed that the ibis was the bird that ensured a pregnancy. This is where we got the story of how babies come about with how the Stork delivers the babies to our door step. (http://the hall of contraception.html). (more…)

Essay on Frank Lloyd Wright

This is an essay example on Frank Lloyd Wright:
Frank Lloyd Wright an outstanding architect in the history of this country. He built some of the country’s most outstanding pieces of architecture. Today people still see his work and are amazed by the outstanding work. Some people may not consider him one of the greatest architects, but he was one of the greatest architects that lived.

The famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, was born in the Richland Center, Wisconsin on June 8, 1867. His father, William Carey Wright, was a Baptist Minister and music teacher. His mother, Anna Lloyd Jones Wright, made comments of her son becoming an architect and it was her destiny to make him one.

Frank attended college at the University of Wisconsin in 1884. His mind was already set to be an architect. Although there were no fields for architecture at the university, he remained for a while and took engineering classes. This is where he got some architectural experience from doing construction on the college. In 1887 Wright left the university and went to Chicago where he designed his own building while working for Joseph Lyman Silsbee. Later in 1887 he left Joseph and would become a designer for the firm of Adler and Sullivan. Wright became their chief draftsman. Sullivan loved Wright’s work. But in 1893 Wright left the firm and made his own office in Chicago. (more…)

Death of a Saleman Essay

This is a example essay on Death of a Saleman:
The play, “A Death of a Salesman“, is one of America’s favorite tragedies. The play is one that every man can relate to. The play involves real characters in real situations. The play demonstrates the great American struggle to make it in the world. “A Death of a Salesman” also shows a struggling relationship between a son and his father. These facts are why this play will always be a continuing classic.

The play deals with two major struggles that every person can relate to. The more major of the two is the downfall of Willie Loman. Willie is a guy who has outlived his career. Willie is out of money and out of luck. The second of these two struggles is Biff trying to do something with his life. Biff is trying not to go down the same track that his father has gone down. Essay on Language

This is an example essay on Language:
It could be argued that human beings are a species of animal. However, the unique characteristic, which makes mankind different from all other species, is our ability to use sophisticated language.

Language is considered multi-sensory, consisting of not only the verbal and writing, but also touch, smell, sound, body, and gestural elements (Class notes). As human beings are social animals, people have the instinct to communicate with others, to share our feelings and thoughts, and as a result, language development in each individual becomes an instinct (Pinker, 1994). Since language is the tool used for communication, Wittgenstein says, “The limits of my language are the limits of my world”. (more…)

Essay on Family

This is an example essay on Family:
Functionalism is a theory based on agreement and consensus where all social systems such as Education, Law and family work together to create an ordered and harmonious society. Functionalists concentrate on the positive views of different social systems and how they work together to emphasize consensus in our society.

In this essay I will explain three four major functionalist explanations and how they contribute to the understanding of a family. I will concentrate the three major theories of Parsons, Ronald Fletcher, Goode and Murdock.

For Parsons the functions of a modern family have been cut down in number over time. Instead pf providing economic and maintenance needs, a family can also provide emotional and relative support. Parsons introduced two major functions which are: the socialization of children and the stabilization of the adult personality. The primary socialization of children concerns the way in which children are brought up by their parents teaching them how to ‘fit’ into society and to recognize between right and wrong. (more…)

Maestro Essay

This is an example essay on Maestro novel:
To a certain extent, Keller is no more than a bitter, drunk and abusive teacher. Keller is bitter towards Paul and his family whenever they talk to him. Before each class, Keller has been sitting at the bar drinking schnapps. Keller is never accepting of Paul’s piano playing, he believes that Paul plays without emotion to put it lightly. Keller is at times a drunk, bitter and abusive teacher, but he also displays dedication as a teacher when he follows Paul to Adelaide to help him compete in the competition.

It is evident in the novel “Maestro” that Keller is a very bitter person. He rarely displays compassion or any kind of emotion towards anyone, besides an occasional twitch of the corner of his lip. (more…)
