Essay on White Fang

This is a free sample essay on White Fang:
The portrayal of the child figure is represented in the three novels Black Beauty, The Jungle Books, and White Fang. The use of this motif allows the audience to view the transformation of “children” into mature beings. In these novels, we watch Black Beauty, Mowglii, and White Fang grow from unshaped, unknowing beings primarily through the guidance of character who are not even their real parents but serve as mother figures. These characters (Beauty, Mowglii, and White Fang) learn the “rules” of their environment from many different characters and sources throughout the novel. These experiences (both positive and negative) in which they utilize what they know and grow from their mistakes (or misfortunes) are what helps in the rearing and guidance of the child figures on their path of learning.

In all three novels, the reader is introduced to the child figures (Black Beauty, Mowglii, and White Fang) really at the beginning of their life. The only possible exception here is that you don’t know initially where Mowglii came from but this introduction is at the beginning of his life in the jungle. This portrayal of the child allows that reader to see them as the naпve clean slates they are, waiting for guidance and education. In Black Beauty, Beauty is portrayed from birth as a valuable addition to the farm and is named for his striking appearance. This ideal impression of the child figure conveys to the reader that although things are good now for this little colt, he will inevitably face hardships during his transformation that will shape him into a truly valuable being. In The Jungle Books, Mowglii is initially portrayed as a happy-go-lucky man cub who isn’t intimidated the least by his new surroundings. This confidence and fearlessness sets the scene for the leader that Mowglii will become at the end of his transformation into adulthood. After being accepted into the wolf pack, he is nicknamed “frog”. This title is representative of the changes he will undergo throughout his adventures. It clearly indicates that Mowglii will become a new being. In the novel White Fang, White Fang is introduced almost immediately as the strongest of the litter. (more…)

Growth of the Internet Essay

This is a free sample essay on Growth of the Internet:
The Internet opens up new worlds accessible to anyone with a computer and an Internet server. The Internet can provide the user with a new means of communication, entertainment, shopping and possibly even the answers to the most rhetorical questions on the planet. For instance, Delaware is a small state that relatively few people know much about. Currently there is a Internet site insisting that Delaware is not really a state. The creators of the site say Delaware may not actually be a state at all, but a huge spaceship that crashed eons ago. Maybe, it also is an alien breeding ground or a government test site for intergalactic engines. Whatever the question, whether informative or senseless, the Internet has an answer.

Search engines such as Yahoo and Excite are todays card catalogs. Search engines perform millions of queries each day. Whatever the theme, search engines can usually locate up hundreds, if not thousands of topics, all in matter of minutes. Not so long ago, this required many hours of research at the local library. The Internet contains thousands of images on file. Unlimited information and services are easily accessible. The diversity of materials available on the net goes far beyond the scope of the traditional library. (more…)

Essay on Public Opinion

This is a free sample essay on Public Opinion:
Public opinion, which can be swayed by the manipulation of the media and to some degree by the President’s persuasion, greatly impacts the policies made by public officials. George Bush promised tax cuts if elected as President of the United States of America. He was able to convince the public that they should be able to spend their money rather than the government. According to the Gallup Poll of September 11-13, 2000 , 74% of the public was in favor of tax cuts. The media’s support of tax cuts was divided; therefore it was not as effective in swaying public opinion as when all media are united in their opinions. Even the Democratic leaders, who were generally against the tax cuts, were unable to prevent the tax cuts. This was due to Democratic leaders like Max Baucus, John Breaux, Blanche Lincoln, and Robert Torricelli who voted in favor of the tax cuts which was guided by the wishes of their constituents. Interpersonal Conflict Essay

This is a sample essay on Interpersonal Conflict:
Interpersonal conflict, is an internal strain that creates a state of ambivalence, conflicting internal dialogue, or lack of resolution in one’s thinking or feeling” (Wilmot & Hocker, 42). Interpersonal conflict has multiple dimensions, but ultimately focuses on the interaction among humans. Although the word conflict has a negative connotation, conflict often helps individuals solve problems and help relationships develop and move forward.

My name is Meagan Smith, and I have experienced several interpersonal conflicts with family, friends, co- workers, employers, and total strangers. Throughout this paper I’m going to discuss an interpersonal conflict that I experienced with my parents and my girlfriends. I will do this by addressing the fundamental elements of a conflict which include the parties involved in the conflict, the actual issue of the conflict, and the context of the conflict and later identifying conflict management strategies, behaviors, outcomes, and the conflict aftermath using the Conflict Lens Model. Heaven and Hell Essay

This is a free sample essay on Heaven and Hell:
Various people have various notions of what is heaven and what is hell. Heaven surpasses the capacity of human language to describe that various symbols have been employed to convey some slight idea of its joys. Hell is the place or the state of external punishment of the wicked after death, with sultan as its ruler.

In Heaven, human become elevated and is made partaker of the divine nature, and by the light of glory is able to look upon the infinite beauty of God. This beauty not only delights the blessed but also inspires inexpressible love for him. In Hell, human are judged for their sins, there is only hate. All those who are there are plagued with pain and hate.

Heaven is the reward of victory in the warfare of life. Heaven is the crown of victory. All those who are there are crowned with immortal glory. Heaven is a place where to love entrancingly, and to be loved in return by the creator. In Hell, we shall know nothing. In Heaven, we shall know everything. In Hell people are punished sinners whose damnation comes from transgressions, which betray infirmity of will, for fraud of deliberate deception by which a person is harmed. (more…)

Refutation of the Myth Theory Essay

This is a free sample essay on Refutation of the Myth Theory:
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most debated historical event the world will ever see. For those who believe in the resurrection, their hope and happiness is encapsulated within the testimonies of the Bible. For those who reject it, their hope and happiness exists by disproving the evidence of the believers. The fact is simple – disproving the resurrection means disproving Christianity.

It is therefore no wonder why the believers are playing defense as rash and blazon minds try to shut down the key to Christianity. The four main theories set down to disprove the resurrection are the swoon theory, hallucination theory, myth theory, and the conspiracy theory. Using the analogy of an archer and his bows, it is up to bold and resolute Christians to counter the piercing claims the non-believers fire attempting to hit the bulls-eye – the core of Christianity.

The most intriguing of the non-believers theories is the myth theory. It accounts as a post-modernist correlation of the hallucination and conspiracy theory, and is the accepted ‘standard line of liberal theology.’

I decided to choose the refutation of the myth theory for the content and evidence argued is the most factual and objective of all the theories. Also, it is the most interesting and explores a wider base than the other theories. (more…)

Essay on Avatar Movie

This is a free sample essay on Avatar movie:
Avatar is the title of the high grossing film produced by James Cameron and released in 2009. the movie stars Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. It is set in the year 2154 on the moon Pandora found in the Alpha Centauri system. The moon is inhabited by a blue-colored humanoid tribe known as the Na’vi. Humans have discovered a mineral, unobtainium, on Pandora. The mining activities by humans have led to conflicts between then and the native Na’vi tribe. The title of the film is taken from the genetically altered human-Na’vi hybrids created by a team of researchers from earth. The avatars are used by the researchers to help in interacting with the Na’vi.

Though the movie is about the Na’vi-human conflict on Pandora, it is also mainly about the love relationship that develops between the avatar Jake (played by Sam Worthington) and a native Na’vi, Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). The two have to fight off the invading humans, although this puts Jake in danger since he is half Na’vi half Human. In the end, the human invaders are defeated and Jake becomes a full Na’vi, after re-affirming his love for Neytiri. (more…)

College Essay on ADHD

This is a sample college essay on ADHD:
Maladaptive behavior such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is common among children. The diagnosis of ADHD in adults can be more difficult than in children. There are many controversial issues surrounding adult/child (ADHD) which include history, symptoms, treatment, and causes.

Historically speaking, ADHD is generally thought to be a childhood disorder. However, data suggest that many adults, both male and female are affected. Most patients diagnosed during childhood carry the disorder into adulthood. Studies show that out of the number of adult cases, over 50 percent were ADHD as children. Nevertheless, women tend not to be diagnosed as children because they never made trouble. Instead, they are often called daydreamers or disorganized. However, the cognitive problems such as being attentive exist. In addition, of the children diagnosed with the disorder, over 80 percent were boys.(Searight 1) (more…)

Essay on Symbolism in Lord of the Flies

This is a free sample essay on Symbolism in Lord of the Flies:
Symbolism is a very important factor in many books. In Lord of the Flies written by William Golding the use of symbolism is ever present. At a first glance many may not think much of the symbols; however with some in-depth thought you can see that they reflect the various situations on this microcosm of an island. As time on the island continues, the symbols change with it, and what they mean also is represented by this change. The pigs, the conch and Peggy’s specs are all Symbolic of the destruction and savagery that grows on the island.

Firstly the glasses that Piggy wore upon arrival of the island are symbolic of the state of the island in many ways. When they arrived at the island the glasses were spotless and perfect, no damage at all, similar to how the boys were. They were used to create fire and were needed; however the boy who owned the glasses was highly disrespected. “’You’re talking too much Fatty’” (Golding, Pg.18) this also changed with how the story unfolded. Soon after this conflict occurred, Jack and Piggy had a slight scuffle, however it would be more accurate to say that Jack beat up Piggy, consequently, this resulted in “Piggy’s glasses flew off and tinkled on the rocks” (Golding, Pg.65) at this time the tribe was still united, however Jack had just made his first mistake of running off to hunt a pig and letting the fire out. Much later in the book the rebel tribe under Jack’s command stole the glasses from Piggy in the night. This was extremely symbolic in many ways as the theft of the glasses also represents the theft of unity take from the boys and then theft of brotherhood. It was this event that lead to Piggy’s death, and the theft of intelligence from the island. The glasses are an excellent symbol of the state of tension and savagery on the island and are used extremely well by Mr.Golding. (more…)
