To Kill a Mockingbird Essay

Sample essay on “To Kill a Mockingbird”:
The novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, like many others of its genre is strongly influenced by the ideas of its author. With this book, Lee has represented her commentaries with symbols or metaphors– although these can sometimes be overlooked too easily in a lengthy novel. The characters she has employed to convey or be subjected to these ideas are referred to as, “the mockingbirds” of the book. Her ideas of who they are and how they should be treated are manifested in this lesson to the children: Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t nest in corncribs; they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird (Miss Maude, pg.15).” I have chosen to discourse on the mockingbirds: Scout, Boo, and Tom because they best represent the title, “To Kill a Mockingbird”. These mockingbirds are not the same age or alike in appearances, nor do they lead the same lives; the only thing in common between them is that they are all innocent and have all been harmed by society to a certain degree. Had I selected characters that were only innocent (i.e. Dill) — though still deserving of the title of ‘mockingbird’, their presence would not fulfill the task of explaining the title’s relation to the whole book. Macbeth Essay

Essay example on Macbeth:
In the novel Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare. I am going to explain how Macbeth turns from a substantial hero into a monster of evil. Macbeth is under control from his wife Lady Macbeth, his unconscious mind and evil.

At the start of the play Macbeth is involved in a bloody battle against the King of Norway, Macbeth & Thane of Cawdor.

Macbeth killed Macdonald, he was carved open from the nave to the chops and then his head was chopped off and then stuck on a post for everyone to see. Macbeth almost wins the battle single-handed. Banquo reports back to King Duncan, who then spreads the word about Macbeth being the hero, and that they couldn’t off won the battle without him. (more…)

Baseball Essay

Baseball Essay example:
The prestigious baseball program that Providence College worked so hard to establish took their last regular-season swings on May 15, 1999. The reason for the sudden end to the program was because the college failed to meet Title IX requirements the previous year. The demise of this prestigious program has continued further debate surrounding Title IX. I would like to show you the reasons behind the cutting of the Providence Friars baseball team. First, I will show how the student-athlete ratio didn’t meet the standards of the NCAA. Second, I will show that baseball was not financially stable. Lastly, I will show why the college chose baseball as the sport to cut. I will also share my personal feelings about the cutting of this baseball program. (more…)

Essay on Football

History of Football Essay example:
The modern game of football, as we know it is in essence an invention of the 19th century. It is a game that was developed with particular aims in mind. It was these aims; of teamwork, discipline and respectability which defined both the way the game is organised and played. The modern game belongs to the era of the industrial revolution and the time that has passed since.

Its origins are believed to lie from ancient times, it is widely accepted that both the Romans and Greeks [never an ancient Olympic sport] played a game very similar to what today we might identify as ‘football’. However this game was very violent and was viewed almost as a test of bravery. Actions such as hacking, punching and generally assaulting the opponent were accepted as part and parcel of the game. Henry V Essay

Essay on Henry V:
You could refer in your answer to the Olivier and Branagh films and the contexts in which they were produced, as well as the context of the play’s original composition.

At the time when Shakespeare wrote Henry V Queen Elizabeth was the country’s monarch and the nation had just witnessed England defeat the Spanish Armada and become the world’s strongest naval power. Therefore the 16th Century and original perception of the play is that it’s celebrating England’s supremacy in battle and shows this again by the production of Henry V and England’s victory over the much stronger French. It’s unifying the country through war and celebrating the country’s pride. Henry V was also related to Elizabeth, so it’s not only a celebration to the country but also to the Queen and her deceased relative. (more…)

Essay on Stress

Essay on Stress:
I was looking through my wife’s Woman’s Day magazine and came across an article on stress titles “Sick of Stress.” The article discusses what can cause stress, complaints of stress, and how to fight stress. Since everyone has or will experience stress sometime in their life, I felt I should take this opportunity to share my findings as well as gain more knowledge on this subject.

The type of stress that is caused by day to day activities is called chronic stress. This type of stress can cause high blood pressure, problems with the digestive track and make an individual more susceptible to colds and flu. With new research it has been discovered that this type of stress can have a greater toll on one’s health that what was thought previously. This “body/mind connection” takes affect when the brain senses stress and in return stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. (more…)

Mass Media Essay

This is an example essay on Mass Media:
The mass media is an influential tool in communicating information about what goes on around the world. Through television, magazines, radio, and other communicative resources, Americans expose themselves to news all around them. It brings into light the amount of power the mass media has and its ability to manipulate the minds of Americans into forming public opinions on certain issues. I intend to discuss the sources of media power, whether the mass media has too much power, and end with a discussion on whether the mass media has influenced my public opinions in any way. (more…)

Billy Elliot Essay

This is an essay example (sample essay) on Billy Elliot:
To be honest I don’t find this particular genre very interesting. The book was one of the most boring books I’ve ever read; it had no sense of excitement or suspense and could easily have been classed as a biography of an ordinary boy’s life in the 1960s. The film was slightly better, but this is due to the fact, that it was designed to appeal to a modern audience; the ending was excruciantly perfect and definitely would not have happened had Billy Elliot been real.

Both the film and the book are about a boy called Billy. In the film the boy is called Billy Elliot, he’s younger than Billy Casper (the boy in the book), being eleven whereas Casper is between the ages fourteen and fifteen. Both the film and the book are set in mining communities with members of each boy’s families working down the pits, in Elliot’s family it’s his dad and brother and in Casper’s his brother. (more…)

The Beatles Essay

“A guitars all right John but you’ll never earn your living by it.” This warning was given to John Lennon, born John Winston Lennon in Liverpool, England on October 9, 1940, repeatedly by his Aunt Mimi while growing up. Boy was she wrong. John Lennon makes up ј of the most renown band that has crossed over three decades, The Beatles.

The story of the Beatles began in 1956. During the early 50’s Liverpool was hit by the skiffle craze. Skiffle music was an improvised form of jazz and hillbilly sounds that was produced with rudimentary instruments such as guitars, washboard, jugs and packing case single string bass. All of the Beatles were influenced by this new form of music. Both John and Paul McCartney, born James Paul McCartney on June 18, 1942 in Liverpool, begged their families for guitars in order to pursue their musical careers. (more…)
