The Fall of Rome Essay

The main reason for the fall of the Roman Empire is civil war. After Marcus Aurelius died Rome was plagued with civil wars. The civil wars can be linked to all four of the systems. The civil wars can be linked to the political system because it helped to cause the division of the empire. Citizens stopped obeying soldiers because they were cruel. The civil wars can also be linked to the social and military systems. They are linked in the same way because civil wars caused many of the citizens to become disloyal and lose patriotism. It also affected the Roman economy, and it’s military in another way. The Roman’s had to spend a lot of money on the civil wars. So it didn’t have enough money to hire mercenaries and fund the military. The civil wars also weakened the Rome’s defenses. This is why the civil wars helped cause the fall of the Roman Empire. Enlightenment Essay

During the late 17th to 18th century there was a period known as the Enlightenment where there were many new controversial philosophical ideas on the government and politics. Some of the ideas that have come up are standard in our government and political practice in the present.

One of the great philosophers of the enlightenment period was Adam Smith and he wrote the great book of The Wealth Of Nations. Adam had ideas involving the econmony, which was that the economy was a self-correcting mechanism, which did not need to be regulated by the government. He wanted a capitalist system where business owners freely managed their own companies and workers could freely choose their pursuits. Adam had said that humans work better when they are striving for personal profits than when they are aiming for the public. (more…)

Knowledge Management Research Paper

Abstract
Knowledge management in a library, even a specialist one such as a Parliamentary Library, can conjure up images of one large catalogue, listing the complete collection and managed by librarians mediating the information into a politically acceptable form. As ever, the truth is more complex. There are about fifteen different collections within the New Zealand Parliamentary Library. Only some parts are catalogued. Access to collections in other parts of New Zealand and across the world means that the information sources available to the 120 Members of the New Zealand Parliament and their staff are therefore vast. The key to the translation of this information lies in the heads of librarians and analysts who can turn this information into ‘MP relevant’ form i.e. knowledge useful for the political process. The paper addresses six questions regarding knowledge management in this political context and suggests some ways in which these processes are already working in New Zealand to ensure the best ‘fit’ of services for MPs and their staff. Monetary Policy Essay

Monetary policy is something everyone should know about. My teacher has an Uncle named Alan Greenspan that is directly involved with the U.S.’s use of monetary policy. When studied, people will learn that monetary policy is the policy used to fix interest rates and set those rates to stimulate the economy or to slow the economy down. In order to shed light on this subject, I have done research on the people that are in charge of setting the latest trends when it comes to using any type of monetary policy and that would be the Federal Reserve Bank or just the FED. The Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco shared some information to aid in learning all about how monetary policy effects macroeconomics.

Okay, we have laid down the guidelines of what the paper is going to be about now, let’s see what the book will have to offer. The book used for this class written by the Great David C. Colander states on page 328 that Monetary Policy is a policy of influencing the economy through changes in the banking system’s reserves that influence the money supply and credit availability in the economy. Lenin Essay

It is erroneous to entitle Vladimir Lenin a Marxist. In his What Is to Be Done?, and The State and Revolution, Lenin discusses many Marxist categories, including the development of proletarian consciousness, the determined path of History and the inevitability of communism, and the relationship between socialism and internationalism. Vladimir Lenin’s insurgent writings represent a significant departure from the speculative writings of Karl Marx. In my essay I will show that Lenin should not legitimately describe himself as a Marxist, and that Leninism as a political philosophy is distinct from Marxism. In my essay, by differentiating Marxist and Leninist, I hope to clear up the common intellectual confusion that arises when applying such terms to a theorist and revolutionary like Lenin. (more…)

A Separate Peace Essay

World War II was a period of violence across globe, and many works of literature of the time reflect this. While works such as All Quite on the Western Front and The Soldier Spies focus on the violence of the war itself, other novels of the period are more about the home life during the war, and have little to do with the hostility in the war. And, while violence does exist in the book A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the scenes contribute to the overall meaning and themes of the story.

There are three essential scenes of violence in the story, each of which helps to emphasize the growth of the main character Gene Forrester throughout his life at Devon school, a school very similar to one Phillips Exeter Academy that Knowles attended as a youth. (more…)

Essay on Alienation

In all of the pictures and stories and the movie we were exposed to in this unit alienation was the key to making them impact the way that they made you think. Especially in “Do the Right Thing” the alienation was ever present. Alienation shapes the way we live, think, and exist as human beings.

In all of the stories we read, the main character or idea was impacted greatly by the alienation that they faced. The one that stuck with me the most was “Mending Wall” by Robert Frost. When I was reading about how his neighbor used a wall to alienate himself from the people surrounding him I couldn’t believe that he would actually like it. Especially when he said, “a good wall makes a good neighbor”. I thought about that statement for a long time trying to figure out what he was thinking about. It occurred to me that he just didn’t agree with things being blown or tossed into his yard by the people surrounding him, but ten I thought a little bit deeper into the issue. I thought about his mindset and what could posses him to create such a barrier. Then I thought that maybe in the area of the world that he was living in, solitude was part of the upside. (more…)

Research Paper on Violence

Violence in Children’s Television
For years the effects of violence and the media has been a controversial topic of debate. While some argue that violence in the media has no repercussions, others argue that its effect is detrimental to society. Within this debate, violence in television has been focused on the most as a prime media source. Perhaps this is because of its influence over society, perhaps this is because of the numerous hours watched daily by the average American. Regardless violence and television has become an ever-present part of this debate. Even more specific however is the effect this violence in television has on children. This goes to the core of the debate, as children targeted by this violence are a major concern in society. Many different researchers have studied the effect of violence in television on children, and most end to agree that it has a negative impact, however controversy still arises as media organizations claim that there is no direct correlation between violence and childrenТs response to television. Overall though, there is a general psychological consensus between these two factors. Violence in television has a negative impact on children through three major revenues; direct effects, desensitization, and the mean world syndrome. (more…)

Essay on Politics

Television has played a decisive role in politics in the past 50 years. Since the 1950′s television and American presidential politics have gone hand in hand. The power of television and its persuasive influence on the American political arena can be seen early in the 1950′s, yet its most historically profound era can be said to have started in the 1960′s. In 1960 John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Richard Milhouse Nixon met in the television arena for 4 political debates. Those events are considered a milestone in television political history due to the vast audiences who tuned in. According to Grolier.com, “More than 70 million Americans saw the first debate, and audiences greater than 50 million people witnessed the other three. Probably the greatest consequence of the debates was to assure voters that the relatively young and inexperienced Senator Kennedy was capable of being president” (Grolier, 2000). The persuasive power of television was from that time on seen as an indispensable tool in running a campaign and in keeping office. The effect of television on the voter populace is so great that candidates running for president rely heavily on media specialists to run campaigns in the form of image marketing and mass saturation of political advertisements.
