DNA/RNA Essay Sample:
The organic compounds deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and ribonucleic acid (RNA) are the basis of hereditary, and can be found in the cells of all prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Both nucleic acids are structured as a strand of repeating units referred to as monomers, or better known as nucleotides.
The nucleotides consist of three components a pentose sugar, a phosphate ester group, and a base. The sugar component of the nucleic acids accounts for one of the main differences between the two. DNA includes the sugar deoxyribose, which has one less oxygen atom than ribose the sugar found in RNA, hence the name deoxy-. The sugar component is then attached to phosphate groups which together make up the backbone of the nucleic acid. The base component attached to the sugar is branched off the nucleotide chain and is composed of either a purine or pyrimidine. The purines are double ringed units called guanine and adenine. The pyrimidines are single ringed units called cytosine, thymine, or uracil. The pyrimidine bases are another difference between RNA and DNA with DNA having the bases cytosine and thymine and RNA having the bases cytosine and uracil; therefore a difference between the uracil and the thymine. The combinations, or sequence of the bases arranged along the nucleic acid strand are unique for every gene and can be thousands of nucleotides long therefore the number of possible combinations is limitless. Al Capone Essay example:
Italian mobs have been the spotlight of many things. The Godfather has I don’t know how many movies in its series. One of the most watch TV series, The Sapranos, has to deal with the Italian Mobs. Today I will tell you about one of the worlds greatest and most famous mobsters. Al Capone.
Gabriele Capone arrived in the US in 1894, he was 31 years old and came to thUS with 43,000 other Italians. He was a barber, and unlike many other Italian immigrants he could read and write his language. Gabriele brought with him his 27 year old wife Teresina, a.k.a. Teresa. Not as bad as it may sound, it is only a four year difference. He also brought with him his children, 2 sons, Vincenzo and Raffaele. Vincenzo was only 2 years old when he moved into the new world and Raffaele was an infant. Teresa was pregnant with a third child, whose name was to be Salvatore. Her fourth son was born on January 17, 1899. His name was Alphonse a.k.a Al. She would also have 5 more kids. Amadeo Ermino, Umberto, Matthew Nicolas, Rose and Malfalda. They would all adopt American names for the outside world. That is a total of 9 kids, which amount to 7 boys and 2 girls. One of the girls died during infancy. (more…)

Understanding our sexuality is such an important part of being human. Seeking out information to not only clarify but correct myths and piece together the sexual puzzle is essential if we, as females, want to live full, happy, and healthy lives. The purpose of this paper is to explore many issues surrounding female sexuality. In the first part of the book, I plan on discussing the differing perspectives of sexuality along with defining what the term actually means. In order to do so, many dimensions of sexuality will be explained. These dimensions include: biological, psychosocial, behavioral, clinical and cultural.
Historical perspectives are then discussed. Throughout history there have been many people who have contributed to issues surrounding sexuality and are important to note. Sigmund Freud was one of the first, who demonstrated the importance of sexuality in human lives. Havelock Ellis was another pioneer in the area of sexuality, who attempted to explain psychological causes of sexual problems. Alfred Kinsey, upon discovering the apparent lack of information on human sexual behavior, set out to collect information using questionnaires to get direct feedback from people. (more…)

Hepatitis Essay example:
Throughout the years, many diseases have had significant effects on the world such as Ebola, AIDS, and the plague. Hepatitis is one of them. Hepatitis is defined as any irritation of the liver, or anything that makes it inflamed. It also described a group of infectious diseases cause by viruses that attack the liver. There are six different types of the disease that have already been discovered. They are Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, and G. All of these end up causing disease except for Hepatitis G, which just lives in the blood and does not cause the infectant to show signs of any illness (Berkman 2). Although, some of the most important cases of Hepatitis deal with Hepatitis A, B, and C.
The history of Hepatitis dates back to almost the beginning of medicine. (Berkman 3) The first recorded cases of the disease were thought to have been right after the distribution of the small pox vaccine in a shipyard in Germany in 1883. During the early and middle parts of the 1900s. The disease was watched closely with the use of contaminated needles and syringes. The effect that hepatitis has on the liver is similar to the effects that alcohol causes. Both end up scaring the liver in the end. When the virus hits the liver, it causes it to be inflamed. The body’s immune system trys to fight the virus with cells called lymphocytes, which end up hurting the liver even more. Fibrosis occurs because now the liver has been scarred. When the scarring gets bad enough, the blood flow gets slower and causes cirrhosis. Then, the blood begins to back up and leak into other organs. The important functions that the liver performs (Berkman 4), such as manufacturing proteins and regulating the transport of fat stores and controlling the production and excretion of cholesterol (Berkman 3), become more difficult to do. Social Security is a continuing issue of the United States government since the founding of it thirty-eight years ago. Initially, Social Security was created to guarantee health benefits to the elderly, disabled, and poor. Though lately, President Bush has been pushing for private health plans and less on government. President Bush proposed a $2.23 trillion budget plan for 2004 including deep tax cuts, an expansion of Medicare, strengthening security at home and abroad, and setting aside $400 million for Medicaid while adding prescription drug coverage and giving states more leeway for spending federal funds. Bush also proposed a new plan increasing Social Security funds to an $8.53 billion budget for the Social Security Administration.
Clashing views concerning Bush’s 2004 budget plan and Social Security exist among Republicans and Democrats. Initially, the majority of Republicans backed Bush’s plans arguing that balancing the budget isn’t a top priority right now and calling the plan “a commonsense budget.” The Commissioner of Social Security is excited about the increase of Social Security funds and believes it is due to the “hard work and dedication” of their employees. On the other end of the spectrum, Democrats argue the budget plan will deepen government debt while shoring up Social Security and Medicare for the baby boom generation in a time when we have no surpluses. The annotated bibliography is a great way to gather information for large writing projects or simply to learn how to evaluate sources for use in papers. You will create an annotated bibliography from sources you gather from online, your school’s library, or even other course materials from your class.
The annotated bibliography is designed to assist you in practicing formatting based on your school’s required formatting styles – such as APA and MLA; however, many schools will not strictly adhere to the styles as found online. Your best resources for developing the correct formatting for your annotated bibliography is to use the resources provided by your school to determine how the style has been assigned for use by your school – such as listing your sources as references, works cited, or the bibliography. The most typical mistakes in essay writing are often the easiest ones to avoid. Stop writing and do these two things first – go to your MSWord options and turn on your spell checker and grammar/style checker under proofing. In addition, turn on the readability function to understand how you can make your writing sound more professional.
Every time you write anything, use these by going to “Review” and selecting “Spelling and Grammar” to have the MS Word program evaluate your paper for errors. Many students fail to use this function; however, it truly is the best way to avoid the most typical mistakes in essay writing.
Once you have overcome the problems that are easiest to avoid, you must overcome the more complicated issues in essay writing. Another typical mistake found in essay writing is failing to align paragraphs with the topic sentence the essay is meant to cover. (more…)
