Terrorism Essay

Terrorism is the threat or use of systematic terror and unpredictable violence by an individual or group for the attainment of political aims. Whether terrorism is utilized for or in opposition to an established governmental authority, it is intended to influence the attitudes and behaviors of a target group wider than the immediate casualties of those terrorist acts.

Terrorism is employed by “political organizations with both rightist and leftist objectives, by nationalistic and ethnic groups, by revolutionaries, and by the armies and secret police of governments themselves” (Laquer 35). Despite contemporary opinions to the contrary, terrorism is not an advent of the 20th century. It has been practiced throughout history all over the world. History is laden with examples of how monarchs utilized terrorist actions to oppress their citizens. The term terrorism itself originates from the Reign of Terror (1793-1794) of the French Revolution, which was a tumultuous time of anarchy. Encouraging the virtue of revolution, leaders like Robespierre advocated the mass murder of aristocrats and nobility. (more…)

Essay on the Internet

With the invention the telegraph, communication shorted its length in time to the receiving end. Messages could now be delivered in a much faster and more efficient way. Then with the advent of the telephone entering into every household, being able to talk to someone through a bunch of copper wires that lived three thousand miles away seemed liked a given. And now we’ve reached yet another stronger state of interconnectedness, the internet. The difference now is instead of filling the phones lines with a limit of person to person chat, an endless arena of cyberspace is constantly being created with an unlimited level of abstraction by the user. And ultimately it is the users in whole that decide where the internet takes us.

In the past thirty years computers have advanced from the size of a filing cabinet to the size of a small commodity that rests in your lap. Its is for this advancement of technology that we now live in the Information Age. Communication and the transfer of ideas through this medium which we call the internet is what starting to press the accelerator pedal toward the increased advancement of our society. How would this thing called the internet play such a large role, by creating an interlinking web of databases around the world to jump to a fro. (more…)

Research Paper on Computer Viruses

While technology advances have brought many benefits to society there have also been technological abuses (1). In today’s generation, with the help of the Internet and the rapid growth of the personal computer in the average household, we are able to talk to and share information with people from all sides of the globe (2). Unfortunately this transformation of data has opened the doors for a new era of high tech crime - the computer virus. The Internet is now a complex gateway for transgression and immoral activities where often the perpetrators of the crime are far removed from the scene of the criminal activity and hidden behind a maze of double speak (3).

Computer viruses are enigmatic and grab our attention. They move silently from computer to computer under a shroud of secrecy and deceit. If they are not caught in time, these malicious programs can erase all the data off a hard drive, rearrange numbers in a spreadsheet file, or practically anything else a clever programmer can devise. The Big Bang Theory Research Paper

The big bang is an vital scientific theory about the origin of the universe. It occurred about 15 to 18 billion years ago. It marked the instantaneous creation of all matter in the universe. The explosion that took place was not a normal explosion; starting as a point of infinite density, thus called the “primordial nucleus”. It expanded at speeds equal to and even greater then light. However, according to the Big Bang theory, the universe will continue to expand for billions of years. The galaxies do not expand. The galaxies will get farther apart and farther apart as time moves on. All forms of matter were formed during this time period. This theory impacted the scientific world and still is an integral part of the scientific world and in the formation of the universe. According to the Big Bang theory the universe should consist of approximately seventy – five percent of hydrogen and twenty-five percent of helium. The universe for a short yet brief time was stuck in a “false vacuum”. Then it from the state of being a “false vacuum” to a “true vacuum”, the state the universe is in today. (more…)

Essay on Conflict Management Styles

INTORDUCTION
I work for an organization called Hallmark Trading Company. This company provides services such as capital ventures, new and used equipment sales and purchases, and a full line truck center. In the course of doing business, sometimes conflict will arise. In this paper, I will first explain what conflict is, the different types of conflict and then the different styles of management used to handle conflict. My personal style of management will also be shown according to the assessment tool taken from the workbook Organizational Behavior 7th addition written by Schermerhorn JR., Hunt, and Osborn. I will explain how this style contradicts with the style of management in my organization but how the style they use may be more effective.

CONFLICT
Conflict is something that happens often in my organization. However, there are different styles to manage conflict and some are more effective than others. Before I explain these different styles, it is important to understand what conflict is. “Conflict occurs whenever disagreements exist in a social situation over issues of substance or whenever emotional antagonisms create frictions between individuals or groups” (more…)

Capital Punishment Research Paper

Capital punishment is the severest form of legal punishment today. In this research paper, I intend to state the history of the problem, the two sides of the issue, state possible solutions, and evaluate those solutions. There are a lot of methods of execution. Procedures authorized in the United States now are electrocution, the gas chamber, lethal injection, and the firing squad, which is used only in Utah. The main options for capital punishment, though, are lethal injection and lethal gas (Snell, 1998). Examples of the death penalty forbidden by law are crucifixion, boiling in oil, drawing and quartering, impalement, beheading, burning alive, crushing, being torn into bits and pieces, stoning, and drowning.

Hanging, the firing squad, beheading, and stoning are options used in some countries but are outlawed in the United States. Most of the countries applying these methods are followers of the traditional practices of Islam. Even the Bible prescribed death as a penalty for more than 30 crimes. By the end of the 15th century, treason, murder, larceny, burglary, rape and arson were all grounds for capital punishment. By 1800, over 200 more crimes were acknowledged, increasing the amount of death penalty cases each year to more than 1000. Interest in abolishing the death penalty didn’t become a concern until the end of the 18th century. (more…)

Human Cloning Research Paper

Background:
Cloning involves removing the nucleus from the unfertilised egg of an organism and introducing this nucleus (which contains DNA) into an egg cell of another organism that does not contain a nucleus. Subsequently, this newly created cell is transplanted into another organism, producing an organism genetically identical to the original one. Benefits of human cloning include the fact that various diseases may become manageable, such as cancer and diabetes. However, there are also disadvantages related to human cloning, one of the biggest is the fact that people are seen to be uniquely created in the image, and by, God. It can be argued that we do not have the right to change the intentions of God in our society. Personally, I believe that the process of human cloning should be restricted to a certain extent. This, to my belief, could create conflict as to what restrictions must be placed upon the process, however if there is no remedy to the problem then it should be banned worldwide. Certainly there are positives involved with the process of human cloning, however I believe that the arguments against human cloning far outweigh the positive functions of it. (more…)

Chaos Theory Research Paper

Chaos is defined in the dictionary as turmoil, turbulence, primordial abyss, and undesired randomness. Scientists describe it as something extremely sensitive to initial conditions. Chaos also refers to the question of whether or not something can be predicted in long-term scenarios accurately or not.

I believe that the Chaos Theory is the base for all human behavior. This theory is most often used in conjunction with the formation of the universe and not human behavior. I will in the next few pages try to show you just how closely it relates to human behavior. I will begin with a short background of the theory, showing it’s base elements. Then I will conclude with my own hypothesis on why I feel that this theory best represents human behavior patterns. (more…)

Alcoholism Research Paper

Alcohol’s importance in our social history is significant. Even more significant is the abuse of alcohol and the how alcoholism has effected modern society. However, before the word “alcoholism” was ever spoken, alcohol was used for many purposes such as settling battles, giving courage in battles, celebrating festivals and wooing lovers. The history of alcohol can be traced all the way back to the Egyptians. In Egyptian burials, it was used to help the dead’s journey to the afterlife. There is also evidence that the Babylonians, around 1600 BC, knew how to brew 20 different types of beer.

It was also around this time that alcohol was tied to abuse. The Babylonians made their laws include punishments against drunkenness. The Greeks and the Romans drank mostly wine, and they loved it so much that they worshipped Dionysus, the god of wine. When they worshipped, the Greeks and Romans would become extremely intoxicated. Their writings are full of warnings against drinking too much. In 55 BC, the Romans introduced beer, right before alcohol become important in religious cultures.

The Old Testament refers to alcohol numerous times, and wine plays an important role in the rituals of many religions. Wine was sanctified by Jesus in the New Testament, and many Roman Catholics still drink wine today as part of their worship. (more…)
